The Trump Organization has taken a step toward digital expansion by filing a trademark application for the name “TRUMP” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Submitted on February 24, 2025, the filing suggests that the company is exploring opportunities in the metaverse and NFT trading space under its brand.

TRUMP Trademark Application: Virtual Assets and Marketplace

The trademark request was submitted by DTTM Operations LLC, the company managing Trump-related trademarks. The filing outlines a wide range of digital services and products, including:

  • Virtual clothing, footwear, and accessories for online avatars
  • A TRUMP-branded interactive restaurant within a virtual world
  • Educational programs covering business, real estate, fundraising, and hospitality
  • A cryptocurrency and NFT marketplace featuring exclusive digital assets

One key aspect of the filing is that the NFT marketplace will only include content authorized by Donald Trump, ensuring that all assets on the platform are officially verified. This raises questions about whether third-party NFTs or external digital collections will be allowed within the ecosystem.

Trump’s Growing Interest in Blockchain and NFTs

This move further reinforces Trump’s engagement with the cryptocurrency and NFT sectors. Over recent years, he has introduced several NFT collections, including the Trump digital trading cards, which gained widespread attention.

Additionally, Trump Media and Technology Group has previously submitted trademark applications related to Bitcoin and digital investment products. The new filing suggests an ongoing push into blockchain technology, hinting at potential metaverse integration in future business ventures.

Political Reactions and Regulatory Challenges

The trademark filing has sparked political debate, as some lawmakers express concerns about public officials leveraging their positions for financial gain in the crypto sector.

Earlier this month, Representative Sam Liccardo (D-CA) proposed the Modern Emoluments and Malfeasance Enforcement (MEME) Act, a bill aimed at preventing federal officials and their families from benefiting from cryptocurrency and NFT-related projects.

Liccardo stated:

“Our public offices belong to the public, not the officeholders, nor should officials leverage their political authority for financial gain.”

If enacted, the MEME Act would prohibit presidents, vice presidents, senior White House officials, and members of Congress from issuing or promoting digital assets, imposing legal penalties for violations.

What’s Next? USPTO Review and Future Plans

The USPTO has acknowledged the TRUMP trademark application, though it has yet to assign an examiner for evaluation. Since the application was submitted under an “intent to use” basis, it indicates future commercial plans but does not confirm immediate product development.

According to intellectual property attorney Josh Gerben:

“While the exact timeline for this venture remains uncertain, the trademark application suggests that the Trump Organization is actively considering ways to integrate its brand into the expanding metaverse and digital economy.”

With Trump’s ongoing interest in blockchain, crypto, and NFTs, this filing could mark the beginning of a TRUMP-branded presence in the metaverse, further intertwining politics, digital finance, and emerging technology.
